Nameservers and CamCore DNS

A domain's nameservers decide who keeps its DNS records. The registry sends anyone looking up your domain to those nameservers, and only the records kept there count.

CamCore DNS

CamCore's nameservers are:

  • acrux.camcore.au
  • mimosa.camcore.au
  • gacrux.camcore.au

While your domain uses them, you manage its DNS records, forwarding and DNSSEC in My CamCore. New domains registered through CamCore use them by default.

See which nameservers your domain uses

Open your domain's page in My CamCore. The DNS card on the Overview tab lists them, and the Nameservers tab under DNS shows them in a form.

Move your DNS to CamCore

If another provider keeps the domain's DNS, the DNS records tab says so and offers Use CamCore DNS.

Before you choose it, write down the records the current provider has, especially the website (A or CNAME) and email (MX and TXT) records. They are not copied. Once the domain moves, add them again on the DNS records tab, or the website and email can stop working.

Choosing Use CamCore DNS sets up the DNS zone at CamCore and changes the nameservers to CamCore's in one step.

Use another provider's nameservers

Some services, such as some website builders or Cloudflare, ask you to point the domain at their nameservers.

  1. Open the DNS tab, then Nameservers.
  2. Replace the entries with the nameservers the provider gave you. Two are required; up to four can be entered.
  3. Choose Save nameservers.

After that, change the domain's DNS records with that provider, not in My CamCore.

How long it takes

Nameserver changes usually take effect within a few hours, and can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone. During that time some visitors see the old records and some the new.
